Q. What is data cabling?
A. Data cabling is the wiring that connects your internet/network to rooms and devices through Ethernet (data) points. It gives you a stable, reliable connection for things like computers, smart TVs, gaming consoles and home offices.
Q. What’s the difference between a data point and a Wi‑Fi connection?
A. A data point is a hardwired Ethernet connection, while Wi-Fi is wireless. Hardwired connections are typically faster and more consistent — especially for streaming, video calls and gaming — because they’re less affected by distance, walls and interference.
Q. How many data points should a home have?
A. A good starting point is one behind the main TV/entertainment area and at least one in a home office. If you’ve got a larger home, multiple users, or weak Wi-Fi spots, adding extra points (or cabling for access points) can make the whole network feel smoother and more reliable.
Q. Can you improve weak Wi‑Fi with data cabling?
A. Yes. A great fix is to run data cabling to a well-positioned Wi-Fi access point, so the signal starts from a better location. This is usually more effective (and more stable) than relying on plug-in extenders.
Q. Do you install phone points as well?
A. Yes. We can install or relocate phone points where needed, including for certain systems like alarms, intercoms or legacy services that still use phone wiring.
Q. Can you install extra TV points?
A. Yes. We can add TV points and antenna cabling to suit your layout, and we can also help troubleshoot issues like pixelation or dropouts. Those problems are often caused by older cabling, worn connections, or incorrect terminations.
Q. Can data cabling be installed in an existing home?
A. In most cases, yes. We can usually run cabling through roof space, wall cavities or underfloor areas and install neat wall plates with minimal disruption. We’ll explain the cleanest pathway options before starting.
Q. Where should the modem/router be located?
A. Ideally, somewhere central — but it also depends on where your NBN connection enters the property. With data cabling, you can place data points (and Wi-Fi access points) where they perform best, rather than being stuck with the router in an awkward corner.
